ANU: Stolen Generations 'Wrongly Treated' for PTSD

Researchers say mental health practitioners are wrongly diagnosing Indigenous and Torres Strait Islander people with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) due to a lack of cultural awareness.

Dr Stewart Sutherland, from The Australian National University (ANU) says PTSD is the “wrong diagnosis” for people who are forcibly removed from their families.

Aboriginal Health Worker needs your help - – Yarning About Sexuality Aboriginal Health Worker Training

Family Planning NSW is conducting a needs assessment to investigate the current landscape of the Aboriginal Health Worker sector in New South Wales. This assessment will explore Aboriginal Health Workers learning needs regarding training and support required to provide reproductive and sexual health information to individuals and groups. You are invited to participate in this survey as you currently work within the NSW Aboriginal Health workforce.

Closing the Gap: Retrospective Review

This report informs a retrospective review of the last 10 years of Closing the Gap.

The project examines and reports on the effectiveness and appropriateness of the overarching Closing the Gap policy framework, with specific attention to critical components of the National Indigenous Reform Agreement (NIRA) in achieving its objectives.

Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation (KBHAC): Supporting Mob and Taking Control of our Future

Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation (KBHAC) is a Stolen Generations Survivor led organisation established by the survivors of Kinchela Boys Home (KBH), a ‘home’ run by the NSW Government for over 50 years to assimilate Aboriginal boys who were kidnapped from their families.

We promote positive, healthy peer support models that address the reconstruction of identity, restoration of family structures and improved social inclusion in community.

Through the committed work of KBHAC Programs and Services our staff can assist with:
- Supporting KBH Survivors and Families Social and Emotional Wellbeing
- Supporting KBH Survivors and Families with Ageing, - Disability and Housing Needs
- Identifying, locating and reconnecting KBH survivors’ descendants with their families
- Supporting NSW Stolen Generations Survivors to access the NSW Stolen Generations Reparations Scheme
- Providing education and training workshops
- Supporting access to the National Redress Scheme (for people who have experienced institutionalized child sexual abuse) and referrals to services for support
- Supporting access to the NDIS
- Supporting community members who aren’t eligible to the - NDIS to access services and supports
- Support Coordination – NDIS supports
- Plan Management
- Community Participation
- Group / Centre Activities
- Advocacy - We offer advocacy and referral support to external agencies
